IDA&S is more than just a fashion brand; it’s a tale of resilience, hope, and the transformative power of kindness. At the heart of our story is our founder, Ida Siu, whose journey from humble beginnings to becoming a beacon of strength and inspiration defines every piece we create.

Given up for adoption at seven years old, Ida was adopted by a pastor and his wife and grew up in Hong Kong with six siblings in a spare room provided by a local church. Growing up in a modest upbringing, she learned early on the values of faith, sharing, and community.

Her path took a dramatic turn when she moved to New York City and married her husband, Shun Yen Siu, and together they had three children. Life in the bustling city was marked by both hardships and blessings. Ida experienced profound challenges, from an industrial accident that crushed two of her fingers to being robbed at knifepoint while pregnant. The lowest point came when she and her husband had only $5 to their name, which they
used to buy a single Happy Meal for their family to share.

Yet, amid these trials, Ida’s story is one of remarkable triumphs. She reconnected with her birth parents, fostering a loving relationship that would last the rest of their lives. She
carved out a space for herself in the business world, co-founding and managing what would become one of New York City’s largest garment factories, and later, a co-founder of
Lafayette 148 – a name synonymous with luxury women’s fashion.

Driven by a desire to give back, Ida sponsored a school that provides education for over 200 underprivileged children annually and established a training workshop for design graduates. Her roles as a teacher and mentor have touched countless lives, embodying the very essence of IDA&S.

IDA&S, therefore, is more than just fashion. It’s a homage to Ida Siu’s life— a representation of her indomitable spirit, resilience, and the belief that from hardship can emerge beauty and

Back in the 1970s, despite facing physical challenges and scepticism, our founder Ida Siu insisted on quality as the cornerstone and signature value of her business. Contrary to the push for fastfashion and cost-cut manufacturing, she pioneered a focus on creating durable, superior products. Ida’s philosophy was simple but revolutionary: “Focus on quality, invest in people, and the profit will follow.”

Decades later, this approach has proven itself. Customers often share stories of our garments, some over 15 years old, still hanging in their closets.

Today, we have continued to invest in high-quality materials and expert craftsmanship, resulting in garments designed to last for years. This longevity is a testament to our commitment to sustainability, as it reduces the need for frequent replacements and diminishes waste.

SUSTAINABLE MANUFACTURING PRACTICES 
Our commitment to sustainability extends to our manufacturing processes. In 2006, our dedication to integrating sustainable practices took a significant leap forward with the construction of our 240,000 square foot LEED-certified manufacturing facility that prioritizes both worker well-being and energy efficiency. Designed with sustainability at its core, the facility features natural air flow systems, solar panels that generate 250,000 kWh of power annually, and a structure that minimizes solar heat gain, reducing the need for artificial cooling, and further reducing our environmental footprint.

TRACEABILITY AND TRANSPARENCY 
Unlike many fashion brands, we’re vertically integrated. This means we know exactly where and how your clothes are made . No outsourcing, no mystery factories . You can trust that our garments are crafted in our beautiful, LEED -certified facility with responsible practices.
